Your first step towards galactic domination starts in a small colony in one of the many planets that exist in this never ending universe. There are four types of maps, the colony map where you can build all your main colony buildings, the planet map in which you build resource production buildings, the solar map which shows the map of your solar system, where you can find other planets to colonize, resources to harvest and enemies to fight and of course the world map, which is composed from all the solar systems of the players in this vast world.
First thing you need to hire commanders and build the colony. In order to build your colony you need resources, there are 4 types of resources to harvest by building production buildings in the planet map. There is a limit of 3 buildings per type, but you can upgrade them in order to increase your income, as well as occupy other planets for more production.
Once your economy is set, it’s time to develop the colony, there is a nice variety of buildings to construct and each building is unique. Constructing the hanger and ship yard allows ships production while building the research center grants you access to new technologies and newer, better ships.
A fleet must have a captain to lead it into battle, and there are many different commanders you can hire for that task. Commanders are unique, with special skills you can upgrade and different formations. You can assign several types of ships to the same commander in the certain formation to your liking and it will affect the commander’s potency in battle. Commanders can be sent to sorties in order to conquer planets.
In order to progress beyond a current solar system, you need to conquer all the plants in the current system. Conquering planets will also provide you with resources and materials you can use to upgrade your ships.
Many things in Battle Space are upgradeable, buildings can be upgraded in order to increase production speed and grant access to better technologies, ships’ parts can be upgraded to increase their potential in battle, while their commanders skills can be upgraded as well.
There is much to do in Battle Space, you need to raise your economy, build the right armies in order to occupy tough planets, fight pirates, complete many quests, colonize other solar systems once you have enough population to migrate, join a union and of course fight other players for dominance over rich planets.
Battle Space’s interface is a bit lacking, there is a lot of text and the game’s window is rather small, which makes it a bit hard to understand at first. The graphics are simple but sufficient for the game, but the main problem is that it’s hard to figure the effect of a the different ships and formations in battle.
Battle Space is a decent MMORTS, it’s sci-fi theme is well designed and it’s mechanics does give the feeling of conquering solar systems in a huge universe. There are alien races, random encounters, rather simple colony management and interesting battles due to the many unique ships and upgrades that are available. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but it’s one of the more interesting browser based strategy games.
